About the project
The National Workforce Skills Development Unit (NWSDU) based at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for the pilot of the Health Education England (HEE) commissioned CNO Learning Disability Nursing Enhanced CPD Scheme. This scheme is developed in a modular structure, with a clear clinical skill focus and accessible to learners from any area of the country irrespective of geographical location. The pathways are shown below:
The CNO Learning Disability Nursing CPD scheme forms a Qualification in Specialism (QiS)[1] and is mapped to the Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting People with a Learning Disability[2]. The curriculum is also be mapped to:
- Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct[3] to support revalidation
- NHS England & Improvement Learning Disability Improvement Standards[4]
- NHS England Long Term Plan
- HEE Competency Standards for Learning Disability and Autism
Formal accreditation is with the Royal College of Nursing.
This project is expected to end 31 January 2022. The pilot started on 30 June 2021 for a four month period and ended on 27 October 2021.
